Description

This replacement cap turns a standard prescription pill bottle into a shaker that is perfect for spices or seeds. The top of the cap rotates to change the amount of material that is released with each shake, and can be rotated completely to close the bottle for storage.

Includes files for regular and large size bottles.

Printed Parts

Each cap requires two parts: one BODY and one LID. There are files for both regular and large pill bottles, so be sure to print the correct size parts. You should be able to print the parts in the provided orientation with no supports.

Additional Materials

In addition to the 3D printed parts, you will need:

1x prescription pill bottle (duh)

1x 1.6mm or 1/16" drill bit

1x 2mm or 5/64" drill bit

1x flat-head M2 screw – I used 6mm ones because that's what I had on-hand, but a bit smaller or larger will be fine

(optional) 1x M2 tap – If you don't have an M2 tap, you may be able to drive the screw directly into the print to form the threads, as long as you've drilled the hole to the correct diameter.

Assembly

  1. Print the parts and assemble the necessary materials
  2. Drill the hole in the BODY to 1.6mm or 1/16"
  3. Tap the hole in the BODY. If you don't have an M2 tap, you may still be able to drive the screw in. If it's too tight, you can try inserting the drill again and lightly wiggling it until you're able to get the screw in. Additionally, if the screw hole ends up too loose, you can add a drop of CA glue before inserting the screw; once it dries, you'll have nice tight threads.
  4. Drill the hole in the LID with the 2mm or 5/64" drill. You want to make sure the screw is a slip fit and the threads will not grab on the lid.
  5. Screw the lid into the body
  6. Replace the cap on your pill bottle with the new one, and enjoy!
