Description

This is a counter display  for showing keychains. I made it by recycling some parts I already had: a 10mm steel rod from an old (paper) printer, an empty, old, SUNLU spool and 2x 10mm bearings.

The top part can rotate.

I can't say where you can buy rod or bearings in case you want to build this object youserlf, since I already had, but I can say you what are precise dimensions.

Materials needed:

An iron or steel rod having the external diameter of 10mm. As said, I recovered this part from an old paper printer I dismantled first than throw it away:

2x bearings having external diameter 26mm, internal hole 10mm and a 8mm height. Those bearings I already had are made by SKF:

An empty SUNLU spool. This spool have the external diameter of 196mm and internal hole 72.5mm diameter, If you have a spool having same exact dimensions, you can use it:

Then you'll need at least 6 (best 8) short self-tapping screws having 2 or 3mm diameter:

And at least 15 M3 screws + M3 nuts:

You can make this stand having 15, 20, 25 or 30 spots, so the number of those 3M screws+nuts  will reflect your own choice. Length of screws cannot be less than 13mm or keyrings will fall. Consider to use longer screws if you want to put many keyrings on the same spot. My advice is to use also hex spacers on top of screws as you can see in the cover image. Better also put another screw, having a large head, on top of hex spacer so keyrings can be more secured.

Assembling process

3mf files contains 1 plate having top and bottom plate to be mounted on the spool, 1 plate having the foot, and 4 different plates having templates for 15, 20, 25 or 30 holes. First two plates are mandatory to print, then you choose how many spost your keyring display will have, then print a template. You can also consider to print the template on paper by downloading the STL and using an STL to PNG converter.

After printed the two spool plates, attach the bearings in the middle:

Please note that the top plate has the center hole covered.

Now attach the drilling holes template on the spool (use the side of the spool you want to be the bottom one: this part will not visible from top on the final product, so you can choose the bottom part to be the one having scratches or ruined parts). You can use some tape:

After attaching the template, drill the holes on the spool using a 3mm drill bit. After spool is drilled, the template will not be used anymore (you can also consider to use it by leaving it there).

Now attach the top plate (the one NOT having the center hole) on the spool side opposite to the one you've drilled:

Fix the plate using 4 self-tapping screws: better to make a small hole on the spool using a drill-bit slighlty smaller than screws diameter.

Then attach the bottom plate to the opposite part of the spool:

You can fix this plate to the spool using only 2 screws.

Now attach all the 3M screws in the bottom holes:

Put the steel rod in the foot:

and then the spool on the rod and enjoy it. Here yoy can see I also screwed bronze hex spacers on the screws:
