These handles are designed for the hexagonal keys provided with the H2D printer, (they will NOT work with the X1, P1 and A1 series), following the same design philosophy as the handles I created for the X1, P1, and some A1 printer keys that you can find here. However, these are specifically adapted for the H2D's superior quality hexagonal keys, which feature a larger cross-section and better steel quality. While the original keys are functionally excellent, they could be more ergonomic - similar to those included with some A1 series printers. Adding a handle improves usability without compromising functionality.
Smaller Hexagonal Key
Key Features
Ergonomic Design: Transforms standard hexagonal keys into comfortable, easy-to-grip tools
Secure Fit: Designed with different tolerances - larger key fits easily while smaller key provides resistance to prevent displacement during printing acceleration
Ecosystem Integration: Part of the comprehensive "4All" collection, specifically compatible with the Rack4All Storage System
Proven Design: Based on successful handle designs that have become popular first prints for many users.Handles for Bambu Lab X1 and P1 hexagonal keyswith more than 20 000 downloads and more than 16 000 makes.
Compatibility
Printer Models: Designed specifically for H2D printer hexagonal keys
The assembly process uses a unique pause-and-insert printing method:
Initial Printing: The printer will automatically pause at approximately 70% completion
Key Insertion: Insert the hexagonal keys into their designated slots while the print is paused
Proper Seating: Ensure the larger key fits easily and the smaller key is firmly seated (should offer some resistance)
Print Resumption: The extruder will move aside to provide access, then resume printing after confirmation
Completion: Allow the build plate to cool before removing the finished handles
The printer pauses and you can insert the hexagonal keys like this
Important Note: The smaller key's tight fit is intentional to prevent displacement during printing accelerations. If the smaller key doesn't stay secure, apply a small amount of cyanoacrylate adhesive at the contact point before resuming printing.
Materials
Recommended: PLA filament for optimal results and ease of printing
Alternative: PETG offers marginally better mechanical properties than PLA when printed
Not Recommended: TPU or Matte PLA are not suitable for this application
Quality Note: Best results achieved with Bambu Lab filaments; other brands may require flow calibration.
Design Philosophy & System Vision
This product exemplifies a comprehensive ecosystem approach to 3D printing accessories. Rather than creating isolated solutions, I've developed an interconnected system where each component works harmoniously with others. The Rack4All Storage System provides multiple storage solutions regardless of your preference:
Original Packaging: Store the complete cardboard box in available drawers
Thermoformed Container: Use Gridfinity-compatible modules for the original plastic container
Individual Tools: Dedicated Gridfinity-compatible modules for handles and modified keys
This flexibility ensures that regardless of how your workflow evolves, there's always a compatible solution. The design represents years of refinement and user feedback, maintaining backward compatibility while introducing improvements. As someone who has provided various solutions over the years, I'm committed to supporting existing products while continuously expanding the ecosystem to meet diverse user needs.
