Description
This compact box cutter for single-edged razor blades is symmetrical and gives you easy access to both corners of the blade by sliding the blade cover either up or down. The cover clicks into place securely to keep it from opening in your pocket (yikes!). The cover also has a hard click at the mid-point to keep it from sliding all the way off.
This is scaled for blades with a back spine 1.0mm thick. (I use Stanley brand blades.) Some blades have slightly thicker spines, but you can scale the parts in the Y direction (in the orientation provided in the STL files) proportionally.
CAUTION: Always use two hands to open the cutter! It is too small to safely open with one hand. And always use great care when handling single-edged razor blades: they are much sharper than utility knife blades and are very easy to cut yourself with.
Printing
I recommend using PLA with 0.2mm layers and a nozzle 0.4mm or smaller.
Assembly
To assemble, just slide the cover piece onto the main blade holder without the blade in place. Slide it up and down several times to work out any rough spots. A drop of lubrication on the slot cam make it operate more smoothly.
To insert the blade, lift up with your fingernail the little spring latch on the back of the blade holder and slide the blade all the way in place, pushing it in until the latch sits back flush with the back of the holder.
To remove the blade, first slide the cover back towards the latch. Then lift up with your fingernail the latch and push the blade back out past the latch.
