Description
This is a modification for my model of The Dawn Machine from Sunless Sea.
It adds a crank to the model. Turning this crank causes all the different parts to rotate as they do in the game.
This modification requires all parts of the original model except:
You will need one copy of every new part:
Everything was printed at 0.2mm layer height.
Does not require any supports.
Printing the gears requires good bed adhesion.
Before assembly, ensure all the gears can turn freely. They might take a small amount of force to break free and a couple of rotations until they turn smoothly.
See Steps 1-3 of the original model.
Now we put everything together by assembling A.
Take A bot and place 8x A-B gear onto it. They should be roughly equally spaced, but it doesn't have to be perfect. Then slide B on top.
Take B-C gear A and insert it into the slot marked with ‘A’ of A mid crank.
Insert 7x B-C gear into the remaining slots.
Slide B-C gear B over B-C gear A.
Then put A mid crank outside on A mid crank. It has a small gap for B-C gear B to pass thorugh.
Slide A mid crank on top of B. Align it so that B-C gear B is on the same side as the indentation on the underside of A bot.
Take the assembled C-G and put it on top of A mid crank. Make sure that A top, which sits freely in the middle of it, is properly aligned. Secure everything by screwing A nut onto A top.
Take B-C gear C and place it on B-C gear B, then top it off with B-C gear D.
UPDATE [2025-06-29] Added “B-C gear wheel D” as an alternative to “B-C gear crank D”, because the crank didn't work as well as I'd like. The wheel works better.
