Star Wars Name Sign

Description

This is a name sign in Star Wars design. Of course it can be used for other purposes than names.

Customization in OpenSCAD

The OpenSCAD file lets you change the relevant parameters, i.e. the two text lines. The length and width is automatically fitted, but you can adjust them as well. The “Your Name” design is 10 x 8 x 1.5 cm. Additionally, you can decide to have two holes inside the base plate for magnets. This creates two empty spaces inside the object to house magnets (obviosuly, you can't see the holes in the photos, because they are inside).

Font

The recommended font is "Star Jedi". You can download the font here. The OpenSCAD manual explains how to include fonts.

Printing Hints

I print two-colored signs on the PRUSA Mini+ using the filament change feature in the PrusaSlicer. Just add a filament change when the first layer of the text begins to print. I recommend black for the base plate and yellow for the text.

You can also use the filament change feature to let the printer pause just before the layer with the ceiling of the magnet holes is being printed to insert the magnet. If you want, you can glue the magnets to the bottom of the holes (although it usually works without glue for me).

If you want to reduce print time and filament consumption, feel free to scale the model down in the slicer (not recommended if you want to insert magnets), reduce infill, or reduce the font size and base plate height in the OpenSCAD model.

Cost & Time

The PLA cost (with Prusament PLA) estimate is 1.36€. Two magnets is approx. 0.42€ (bought a set of 50 magnets on ebay). Print time of the original model is estimated to be 3 hrs and 18 minutes. These values may vary when you adjust the model in size and volume.
