Description
Update 10/4/17: I included a new version of the plug with dimples to interface with the clips inside the digital port, I have not tested this plug design yet, but I had some requests for it.
I worked with Citrus3000psi on a Plug'N'Play GCVideo dongle for the GameCube using my 3D Printed Digital Port Connector. We set out to make a compact device that is easy to use, and plugs into an unmodified GameCube.
Credit goes to Citrus3000psi for the PCB soldering and testing, its a thing of beauty. I have also attached his pictures from the first working unit.
I also want to give a shout out to Unseen, he provided a custom firmware for this project that enables this project to function. The GCVideo project was all thanks to his wonderful work.
For the PCB you can find a ready to order links for the two PCBs and the firmware file on Citrus3000psi's release post for the project. https://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?p=1277833#p1277833
Now onto the details about this case.
The GCPlug Plug
It is not an easy print, I was not able to print it with any of my machines, I suggest that you get that part manufactured at a professional shop, it will likely cost a couple of bucks at most to have it printed.
It requires you to salvage pins from a PCI connector (Not a PCIe connector), the current process for this is to use a pair of pliers to remove the pins from the PCI connector and press them into the printed plug. It is a time consuming task.
GCPlug Top and Bottom are now optimized to print on consumer machines, you may still want to get it made at the same shop as your Plug though just to get a really nice finish.
GCPlug Solder Jig is just a jig to help you solder the board to the plug it is a really easy print.
GCPlug Button, just a simple button insert. It provides an external interface to program the GCPlug for IR remote control.
Additional items needed for the GCPlug
4x M2x14mm Screws in tapered flat head style
4x M2 nuts
I have added these to my Shapeways shop, if you want to purchase them from this link I get a little bit of the profits. https://www.shapeways.com/shops/collingall-mods
