The Palazzo dei Normanni (Palace of the Normans) or Royal Palace of Palermo was the seat of the Kings of Sicily during the Norman domination and served afterwards as the main seat of power for the subsequent rulers of Sicily. The building is the oldest royal residence in Europe (from Wikipedia).
The Castello della Zisa (Castle of Zisa) is an imposing Norman-era structure in Palermo, Sicily. Built in the 12th century as a summer residence for the Norman kings, the castle has a particular architecture with a square base, with four cylindrical towers and a large central hall. The name "Zisa" derives from the Arabic "al-Aziz", which means "the splendid one". Today, Castello della Zisa has been restored and is open to the public as a museum.
Porta Felice (Felice Gate) is a monumental city gate of Palermo, consisting of two opposing pylons. The gate was built in Renaissance and Baroque styles between the 16th and 17th centuries. It takes its name from Donna Felice Orsini, wife of the Spanish viceroy Marcantonio Colonna, who, in 1582, decided to give a monumental entrance from the sea to the Cassaro (the current Via Vittorio Emanuele), the main and oldest street in the city.
Porta Nuova (New Gate), adjacent to the Palazzo dei Normanni, was for centuries the most important access to the city of Palermo by land. It marks the beginning of the Corso Vittorio Emanuele, or Cassaro, the main artery of the city, and from outside, the Corso Calatafimi, the road to Monreale, the next city over. It was commissioned in 1583 by the Spanish viceroy Marcantonio Colonna to celebrate the victory over the Turkish armies and commemorate the triumphs of the sovereign.
The Church of San Cataldo is a Catholic church located at Piazza Bellini in central Palermo, Sicily, Italy. Built in 1154 as a notable example of the Arab-Norman architecture which flourished in Sicily under Norman rule on the island, the church is annexed to that of Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio (from Wikipedia).
