Description
Everything is better with magnets. 😉
I remixed the nice snowman by 3D Printy. Thanks a lot for providing the step file!
Instead of a rubber band, round neodymium magnets are used to hold the parts together. The screenshot with the cut models side by side shows it very well, i think.
That way the snowman should be easier to build, is very modular and more flexible. On the other hand it has more parts and magnets are needed.
I paid attention to keep the outer dimensions like in the original, so most of the accessories and remixes should be compatible.
I also altered the hat. It is now a multipart model, gets screwed together and it is very easy to add the colored accent. No need to change the filament mid print. It also holds to the snowman by a magnet and thus is movable. No need to glue it (but you can if you want).
The head of the snowman is always round, no extra model needed.
Things needed beside the prints:
6x 6x3 mm round neodymium magnets, widely available e.g. on aliexpress https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-6x3-mm-magnet.html
superglue
The superglue is needed to hold the magnets in the plugs and hat in place. The respective counter magnet in the main body is free to move.
The plugs have a slot to screw them tight with a coin or similar. Because the magnets of the middle and head plug sit where the slot is, it is easier if you first put the magnet in the main body, screw the plug and then glue the magnet to the plug.
Special print recommendations:
Head Main
support recommended, activate only on print plate
best: draw the support manually (green, model viewed from the bottom):
pay attention that the seam is not going through the front/face, e.g. activate “back” seam mode
Middle Main/Middle Main Stick Holes
pay attention that the seam is not going through the front/buttons, e.g. activate “back” seam mode
Brim might be needed
Bottom Main
same as Head Main
Hat Accent
print in vase mode with 0.6 - 0.8 line width (even if you have a 0.4 nozzle)
Hat Base
support needed
The cad files are a mess, but feel free to remix. There are some global variables in the Fusion360 file you can play with.
