gyro gear christmas tree ornament

Planetary gear and gimbal gyro combined into a fidget-ish decorative christmas tree ornament!

Printing: The 3mf consists of several parts for relatively easy coloring. Parts 3, 4, 6, 9, 13 & 14 are the golden stars in the photo. If you color it that way, a lot of color changes are involved, which might be wasteful, depending on the printer used, but great for multi-nozzle systems like INDX or XL. 

If you want to save purge on other systems you can leave parts 6 and 9 (stars on the side) in the base color, then there will be only 4 color changes.

Other settings: 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height, nothing special.

Depending on printer and filament, it sometimes is a bit difficult to break the gears free:

• In that case I remove the outer ring (rotate outer ring perpendicular to gear part, slightly press on the it's sides, get gear part out), then press on the sides of the gear part in various places (I can often hear some slight cracking noises of gears breaking free) and try to push the individual planet gears, until I can turn the gears. 
• More turning makes it smoother 
• I sometimes a dab of silicone oil as a finishing touch for smooth operation. 
• However there's also a version with wider tolerance.
• You can also try reducing the extrusion multiplier
• or set a slightly negative value for the XY size compensation (e.g. -0.03)
