Magnetic Twiddler - Fidget Toy Rings (8x3mm magnets)

I absolutely love the feeling of two magnets repelling each other. That little bit of resistance and the way they sort of slide past each other is just cool. 

These rings embed 8x3mm magnets inside them and are super fun to play with. They've gotten me through a few long Zoom calls already!

The sides of the ring bands also have little ridges that are fun to scrape your fingernail down.

Slicer Instructions

Layer Height: .2mm

Seam position: Aligned or Rear (this will hide the seam better on round objects)

Pause Print: Insert a pause just as the hole for the magnet is starting to be covered as shown in the screenshot below.

Printing

Determine which ring size to print or print several to test out their size. Each ring has little nubs to help you recognize what size it is (internal diameter).

Then print the ring tops. You'll want to print at least 2 tops. When the printer pauses (see adding pause print above), insert your magnets with the SAME polarity. 

Tip: Hold your magnets in a stack. Slide one off the top and place it in the hole of one ring. Then slide another magnet off the top and place it. If you always keep your stack of magnets facing the same way all of your rings will repel each other.

Note: The hole for the magnet is oversized. This means the magnet will move a little inside of the hole when you fidget. You might actually like this because it clicks around. If you don't like this, you need to glue the magnet it place to prevent it from moving around.

Assembly

Once the rings and tops are printed, insert the little prongs on the rings into the bottom of the ring toppers. You might have to push hard to get them in. 

Note: The ring push-fits into the top and you should be able to pull the top off if you want to change ring sizes. I don't know how many times you can do this before the little nubs wear out. Use glue if you want a permanent mount.
