Recliner Large Glass Adapter

This adapter is designed to fit into a recliner's cup holder and allow it to hold either larger glasses like wide-base wine glasses or beer steins with long handles. Here are the relevant dimensions to help you decide if this is useful for you:

Key Dimensions

  • Base's diameter (the part that fits into the existing cup holder) is 85.16 mm
  • Base's height is 38.14 mm
  • Adapter's diameter (the part that accepts larger glasses) is 97.16 mm
  • Adapter's height is 24.00 mm

Design Considerations and Future Improvements

This design's base was designed with an inward taper which in my head at the time meant less filament used and lower print time. In practice I'm not sure that's true because that means more perimeters, and since this isn't a strength-sensitive part a small number of perimeters and low infill will probably work. I would like to revisit this and compare the current design to a more naive design of the base with low infill.

Printing Advice

I printed this with the 0.15 mm layer height Quality preset. I think that a more speed-oriented setting with larger layer height might work just fine because this is a straightforward design without fine details that isn't strength-sensitive.

If you use this for a dark room I suggest glow-in-the-dark filament (though be aware that these filaments tend to wear nozzles faster as they contain abrasive materials that give it the glow-in-the-dark property) for these parts because that can help illuminate drinks for people moving around. I printed the part shown in the photos with Amolen glow-in-the-dark PLA.
