Description

The original weight in my lamp was in the form of a plastic container filled with some kind of material. One day I realized that the lamp weight is loosing its filling material. On closer inspection it turned out the filling material was dissolving the plastic container, so the lamp weight had to be disposed of and the lamp landed in cellar.

Printed lamp weight filled with sand made it possible to reuse the lamp.

The replacement weight of the lamp was designed so that it can be printed without supports. For this reason, there is an additional printed washer. The washer consists of two parts to allow installation with the lamp cable attached.

Lamp weight dimensions:

  • outer diameter: 208 mm;
  • inner diamter: 16 mm;
  • height: 29 mm;
  • printed washer inner diameter: 12 mm;
  • distance bottom of the washer - top of the lamp weight: 9 mm.

Print settings:

  • Layer height: 0.2 mm;
  • Perimeters: 3;
  • Solid layers - top/bottom: 5 / 5;
  • Infill: 15 %;
  • Supports: no.

Assembly procedure

The original lamp weight was hold in palce under base by low profile nut (M10) screwed on the lower part of the lamp tube. In addition, between the nut and the weight two washers were placed.

Required additional parts:

  • 13 x countersunk screws 2 x 15 mm;
  • sand (to fill the lamp weight);
  • original washers and nut used with the lamp.

Situation before assembly:

  • the original lamp weight is removed,
  • the lamp cable is attached,
  • the original nut and washers (used to fix the weight) are loose inserted on the lamp cable.

Assembly:

  • fill the bottom  part of the lamp weight with sand;
  • using countersunk screws attach the cover to the bottom part;
  • insert the lamp weight into the lamp base;
  • insert both parts of the printed washer;
  • using the original nut and washers fix the lamp weight.

Remarks

The main parts are quite large. I didn't want to be forced to print the parts repeatedly, so the design and print settings were more on the safe side.
