Description

These cubes continuously rotate around each other, while staying parallel to the x,y axes. No hardware is required.

This project is the result of my study of non circular gears.

PDF download:
https://blog.hirnschall.net/downloads/download.php?file=gears.pdf

This model connects the two cubes using two connector bars which keep the mat a fixed distance using control cams. At the same time the two cubes have square gears and are therefore fixed in rotation when at the corners (hard to explain.. xd).

Find more projects on my blog :)

ASSEMBLY
If possible use steel dowel pins to assemble both cubes.
You can also use 1.75mm filament instead of steel pins.

Please note that it is recommended to use steel pins since they are more torsion resistant.

Print instructions

Use a medium to fine preset. To avoid a bad finish I recommend printing all gears one by one. All other stls can be printed as a multi part job.

What to print:

  • 2x square gear
  • 4x outer shell
  • 2x connector
  • 1x center gear
