Use case

Peeling an orange with a simple kitchen knife can damage the flesh of the orange… and the flesh of your fingers! This part aims to protect both. Simply slide the shaft over the blade of your little kitchen knife, adjust how much of the blade tip you would like to have sticking out, then fasten everything with the little thumb screw.

This part can even work as a sheath, if you want to take the knife with you to peel your orange on the go. Simply put it on the other way around, tighten the screw, and your knife is cleanly stored away with no risk to cut yourself when you reach into you pocket or bag.

Hygiene should not be an issue, as the printed part never touches the part of the orange that you will eat. To clean the part simple take it off from the knife, take out the screw and rinse both parts with water. As always, it is your life, use this part at your own risk.

Printing

Both parts are very easy to print. Simply position them in the uploaded orientation on your print bed. I have used 4 perimeters and 25% infill, both are likely not critical if you don't overtighten the screw. Both PETG and PLA should be fine, I have tested with PETG on a Prusa i3 MK3S. The screw should fit into the thread right away, it may need a little wear-in. Just screw it in and out a few times to wear it in.

State of development

There are two versions now, the original (shorter) prototype and (longer) final version (Version 2.0 in the file name). For the typical kitchen knifes that we get here for a few bugs in Germany, the final version fits perfectly. If it should be too long for you, you can fall back to the orginal prototype. Take care though, as the shorter version will not protect your fingers as well as the full size version.
