Description

Manual bed leveling on the JGMaker Artist-D is made even more difficult due to the screw support at the center of the bed. If not properly leveled, the bed could either be sagging or bulging in the center.

I decided to approach it methodically by coming up with a leveling pattern to assist in achieving the most optimal bed level on the Artist-D.

Follow the steps below and refer to the pictures for reference.

Slicer settings:
Layer height: 0.2mm
Wall line count: 3
Print speed: 60mm/s

Step 1: Adjust the leveling knobs using a ruler as a guide to straighten the print bed. Use the light that passes through the ruler edge to gauge how curved or straight the print bed is.

Step 2: Set X-mode to “individual and print a baseline using the "leveling grid - individual.stl”. Visually inspect how squished the squares are as well as the thickness of the lines.

Step 3: Print the pattern again. While printing, adjust the leveling knobs to make the squares’ appearance the same with the rest including the center square.

Step 4: Use the z-limit adjustment knob to level the entire print bed. Repeat until optimal adhesion is achieved.

Remember! Rotate clockwise to raise nozzle from the bed; counter-clockwise to move nozzle closer to the bed.

Step 5: Print the “union jack” pattern and admire that well dialed-in print bed!

Step 6: Adjust the 2nd extruder. Set x-mode to mirror and print “leveling grid – mirror.stl”. Adjust the 2nd extruder’s level using the adjustment screw. Repeat until both extruders print the same square and line thickness.
