The construction is intended to resemble a hardcover book with a dust jacket. A hole near the top of the spine allows it to be hung from jewelry wire. There are two sets of earring / charm models: one for a 5mm thick book and one for a 6mm thick book. The pendant model is twice the height and 8mm thick.
Instructions:
- Print a cover. Typically this would be black but other colors could be used (gray, green, red) to mimic the cloth cover of the book.
- Print the corresponding pages insert. This would normally be white but gold could be used to represent gilt-edged pages.
- Using one of the corresponding templates (from the attached pdf), create an image of the dust jacket. Make sure the image prints out at 20mm high for earring/charm and 40mm for pendant. If you happen to have a 2mm hole punch, now would be a good time to cut the hole at the top of the spine.
- Print the dust jacket image onto whatever paper seems appropriate (plain, glossy, sticker paper) and cut to size.
- Wrap the paper around the cover, tucking the flaps inside. Make sure the hole in the cover is at the top. If the paper is non-adhesive, it probably wouldn't hurt to glue in place.
- Slide the pages insert into the cover, lining up the holes. A drop of glue on the spine should suffice to hold it in place. If you haven't cut the hole at the top of the spine, you can use something sharp to poke through the paper.
About the dust jacket templates…
These are intended to be printed so that the image height is 20mm (40mm for pendant). The image is divided into 5 sections (from left to right): back inside flap, back cover, spine, front cover, front inside flap. The circle at the top of the spine section corresponds to the hole in the model.
