Description
Whether you are gaming, working on your computer, or just surfing the web, this “Hands Free Chopsticks Holder” will keep your hands and precious electronics clean. I found similar designs on Printables / Thingiverse, but they all use 3D printed chopsticks. Most printer filaments aren't food safe and the small gaps between printed layers are impossible to clean so bacteria can quickly start growing on models that come into contact with your mouth. I fixed this problem by designing my model to hold standard issue takeout chopsticks as shown in the photos. Simply break the chopsticks in half, slide them into the hinged slots and they're ready to go!
The curved handles fit comfortably between your pointer and middle finger allowing you to pick up your favorite snacks by squeezing your fingers together. The angled top edge allows you to place the chopsticks face down without the tips coming into contact with the surface. You can easily replace the chopsticks and use the hands free holder over and over until the hinge gets tired.
This model was specifically designed to fit the bamboo takeout chopsticks from my local sushi spot (~6.2mm diameter) so I am not sure if they will fit all takeout chopsticks. If there is a different size / shape you would like to use, please let me know and I can add a revised model myself or share the CAD file with you for a remix!
This model should be printed in PETG for the hinge to have sufficient springy-ness. It should also be printed at a 45 degree angle (as set in the 3mf file) so the living hinges do not break along a layer line. I recommend adding at least a 5mm brim as the contact surface is quite small. The thin walls are 1.2mm thick so they will be printed as only perimeters. You can increase the number of perimeters and infill to your liking, but it works perfectly using PrusaSlicer's PETG configuration. I have included the STL, 3mf, and an optimized gcode for ease of printing.
Enjoy!
