Description
This is a remix of hbrandstaetter's Imporved spool holder, which is a remix of kurioso's Spool holder for Anycubic I3 Mega.
I liked the look and placement of those models, but my i3 Mega is frequently picked up, moved, and knocked around. The length of those models made them fragile and prone to drooping with a heavy spool hanging on them, even with infill maxed out.
I kept the printer interface and spool jaw dimensions, as well as the overall look and printability of hbrandstaetter's design, but chopped 35mm's from the center, and added some girth to areas that were somewhat weak.
This version doesn't droop with a full spool, and takes slightly less space from the bench. I can grab the printer and spool at one time to relocate it.
Kurioso's original design is at: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2647030
There, you will be able to find the spool holder portion of this design if you need it. I'm using his remodeled bracket design to fit a Creality style tube so I can keep spool adapters uniform between 3 different printers.
Update 01182021: I wasn't pleased with the sloppy interface between the bracket and the gantry, but it needs to be sloppy to fit. I also noticed after a few days of running with this mount that the front jaw seemed to be flexing under the weight of a full spool. I added a beefed up version of this mount and labeled it "V2", and added a shim that slides between the mount and the bracket from the bottom, once it's installed. I decided also to include the tube, the nut, and the adapter I'm using for my spools. Everything except for the adapter can be printed as modeled without supports. The adapter prints best horizontally as modeled, with supports, which are super easy to remove if you print with a support density of 5%.
