Description

Also my second version of the miniature vice became very popular right after it's release. If you don't have it yet, here are the files for the vice itself:

Update 23.01.22: New fully printed table clamp is available now!

If you love the combination of metal screws and 3D printed parts, this table clamp here is for you. If you want a version that is completely 3D printed and works just as well, I recommend the new version 3.0 clamp:

Description for Version 2.0 (with M6 metal screw)

As I had simplified the assembly of the whole vice system by removing the need for thread cutting after the print, the original table clamp became incompatible. So here it is, the new version 2.0 of the table clamp, fully compatible to version 2.0 of the miniature vice.

Besides the compatibility rework, I have also streamlined the design a bit, by removing some unnecessary material at the main bar below the vice and doing some other minor optimizations.

As with the first version, the basic idea is that this clamp is very gentle on your desk, so you can use it to do some mechanical work at your desk and don't have to work in your cold basement. Anyway, use this part at your own risk, as always.

Have fun with this little vice and table clamp. Take care for yourself and for others! The defeat of the pandemic is near, now let's make sure to minimize our losses for the next few weeks!

Happy printing!

Print instructions

Print all these parts as uploaded on it's side. I do recommend PETG, but PLA was also working ok for me. As the main part has to take a lot of forces if you tighten it strongly to your table, I strongly recommend 100% infill.

Assembly

What you need in addition for this clamp is

  • 1x Nut M6 (standard nut, nothing special)
  • 1x Screw M6x40 (or longer if your table plate is very slim)
  • 3x Nut M3 (standard nut, nothing special)
All other parts you need are listed in the bill of materials of the vice itself (see link above).

Once you printed all parts, you need to get the M3 nuts into the respective cavities at the bottom side of the upper bar. Simply stick a M3 screw threw the hole from the top, attach the nut from the bottom, then tighten the screw to pull it into the cavity. That may go a bit hard, but the nut will stick there securely once it is in.

Then add the parts of the vice by simply pushing the M3x16 screws (the same screws that you would use to attach it to the ground plan) all the way through from top to bottom and tighten them into the assembled nuts.

Put the M6x40 screw into the thumb knob and press on the lid with the chamfered side first. I have actually used the miniature vice to press in the lid which worked fine. You simple need to do this a bit carefully, only pressing the lid in a bit, then rotate the know a bit the press a little more and so on. In the end the lid should be completely level with the knob. (See picture with the red knob clamped in the grey vice.)

Push the M6 nut into the cavity a the bottom, add the screw with the knob from the bottom and screw it in.

The last thing to do is to clip on the table bottom protector. If that should sit so tight that the arms don't sit flat on the clamp, go for the second version that I uploaded which says "more play" in the file name. On the Mk3S, the normal version worked out perfectly for me.

That's it, you are good to start working with your vice.

The license does not allow derivatives, as one of my designs was “taken” from me in the past to collect donations on Thingiverse via a “Remix”, that did not add any significant value. That made me really sad. If you want to seriously remix this design, please contact me and I will be glad to approve that.

Version for bigger table plates:

One user of this design, Guyzerr, has adapted the clamp to fit his bigger table. He was so kind to provide his .stl file for others that may have the same problem. You will find it in parallel to my original parts in the download section.
