Description

Manu Militari (witch translate to “With a military hand” in Latin, meaning using military force or force of arms) is an hex-based terrain tiles system that can be used for wargames, strategy games, RPGs and so on…

The tile system

At its core, the system use hexagonal connectors that can interlocks with each other and on top of witch tiles can be placed. Everything is a physical fit and no magnets are required. The connectors can also be stacked for easier strorage and transport. Elevation tiles are stacked on top of a connector, before putting a terrain tile, to create elevation. The hollow center of the connector can be used for smaller tiles that will be hidden under the top tile (could be useful to hide ressources or treasures under your terrain, for example…)

Note : this is a ongoing project and more tiles will be added in the future, for different settings, age periods, ect… This is the Base set, wich include various terrain tiles for the more common wargame settings. Expansions could be released in the future that would contains tiles for more specifics game universes/settings.

-PRINT INSTRUCTIONS-

Everything is made to be easily printed on a regular FDM printer at a layer height of .2mm with a standard .4mm nozzle and with standard slicer's profiles. The models does'nt need support (unless specified) or any other special parameters or care. Don't be afraid to experiment with color changes and print multicolored tiles, even if you have only one extruder (like I did for all the photos…) !

At their current scale, the tiles will accomodate 28mm or even some 32mm minis with a round base (but it depend of the size of the base…). If you change the scale, It could be a good idea to first print a few connectors and tiles to test if the tolerances are still to your taste.

-MODELS LIST-

Connectors : base connector and elevation tile, used to put the other tiles on top of. They come in these configurations :

  • Tight : thigher fit, for those with a well calibrated and accurate printer ;
  • Loose : looser fit, for those with a less accurate printer, squished first layer or if you want to print them very fast.
  • Simple (tight and loose) : a simpler and thinner, non-stackable version of the connector. You loose some of its capabalities and strenght but you save on filament and printing time.

(I suggest you try them and chose the one that suit you the most…all are equally compatible with all the terrain tiles…except the last one of course).

  • PocketTactic compatible : a modified connector that is compatible with tiles from the game PocketTactic, made by Ill Gotten Games (http://www.illgottengames.net/). Note : it was compatible with the version of the game I had at the moment. Check to be sure before printing a bunch of them.

There is also elevation tiles, that you can stack between the connectors and terrain tiles to create elevation in your “map”. They come in two versions : one with an empty center (like the connector) and one wich is full.

Pirates and corsairsTiles made for the golden age of the piracy (1650-1720). Note : some of those tiles, like the ocean tiles, can be used in any setting.

--Also included are some .3mf files that you can open in Prusaslicer, with color changes already created.--

Wargame rules

Minis by BriteMini, Ill Gotten Games and others…

Manu Militari comes with a complementary set of homemade wargaming rules that will let players create their own small army of a few units each and battle on custom-made battlegrounds. The game is made to be easy to understand yet hard to master, with a emphasis on the customizability of the units a player control.

In short, each player create a small army of 6-12 units and engage in battle on a map created with the hex tiles. The entire game is played with a single six-sided dice (unless units of different historical period battle each others).

The rules include :

  • The base ruleset, describing how to play the game ;
  • A Unit Creator (that tell you how to create your own units and attribute a point value to them) ;
  • Exemples of units for different era/settings ;
  • Exemple scenarios and game universes

Note : right now the rules are only available in French… but an english version could eventualy be made. Also, this is just a fun personnal project, don't expect a fully balanced game at this moment…
