UPDATE 10072023: I'm not sure why it didn't occur to me sooner, but with the subtlest of changes, this could be mounted to the inside of the right side 40x40mm extrusion, or on the left side 40x40mm extrusion attached over the mainboards face. I renamed the original model to “E3_Front_PWR_Switch_OS_Right.stl” and added two more versions, “E3_Front_PWR_Switch_IS_Right.stl” and “E3_Front_PWR_Switch_OS_Left.stl”. OS=OutSide, IS=InSide, and of course Right and Left refers to which 40x40mm extrusion the design is intended. The included photo's are all of the original design, “E3_Front_PWR_Switch_OS_Right.stl” I did not add a version for the inside left for two reasons. The electronics enclosure prevents this design from being used on the inside left, but if somebody were to relocate the electronics enclosure and wanted to use this on the inside left, the “OS_Left” version could simply be mirrored and used in that fashion.
I like for all of my 3D printers to have front mounted power switches for convenience.
I designed this switch holder specifically for the Creality Ender 3 to mount on the front of the 40x40mm extrusion on the right side of the printer. I also prefer to have my printer displays mounted on the left side of printer frames, both out of familiarity with my other machines, and so encoder presses are supported and not flexing the mount for the display. I relocated the display to the left of the machine so that right side extrusion was open for this design. This model will NOT work on an Ender 3 with the stock display installation.
I'll probably post the design I'm using for the stock Ender3 display mounted atop the left side 40x40mm extrusion shortly if anybody is interested.
My Ender 3 is a recent acquisition that I didn't purchase as a printer, but as a mangled box of Ender 3 parts. My PSU's plastic base piece was destroyed and unusable upon arrival, so I downloaded and have been using a design by jodoll. His model is at: https://www.printables.com/model/139612-ender-3-pro-power-supply-holder
Jodoll's model is fantastic in that it has multiple mounting options for relocating the PSU, which is absolutely necessary for adding a second lead screw to the Ender 3, and is IMO, a must have upgrade to the Ender 3. I did add a small hole in the front facing right corner of jdoll's design to run the wiring for the new switch. If anybody needs jdoll's PSU mount with a hole in it, I suppose I could post that as a remix as well.
I've included a file “Switch_Negate_Cover.stl” which is just a rectangular cover that replaces the tiny rocker switch that came with the Ender 3. Removing the defunct switch and replacing it with the cover is of course unnecessary, but I'm troubled by the presence of switches that have no purpose. Both parts of this design print easily as oriented in the STL's without the need for supports.
