Description
In combination with easy-to-get and nicely prices suction cups, this part replaces the Garmin suction cup holder for their navigation devices with 17.3mm ball joint.
The original Garmin suction cup holder is not great and falls of the windscreen every time it gets hot in the car. As I find it simply unavoidable to park my car in the sun once in a while, I got tired of re-fixing my Garmin holder all the time.
For around 3€ per piece, there are nice suction cup holder on the internet, that are apparently mass-produced for all kind of applications. They come with all kind of more or less useful appliances, like carabiners or hooks. So all it took was to design this 3D printed part with a 17.3mm ball on one side and the fitting 24mm ratchet interface towards the suction cup on the other side.
I got mine on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0BRSQ6M6L
But there are multiple suppliers that offer these suction cups for all kind of applications with different appliances. Just google for suction cup holder and look for anything that looks like the one in my picture (the one with carabiner).
Printing of this part is super easy. Just place it on the print bed in the uploaded orientation. I recommend 4 perimeters to make the part strong. An infill of 25% gyroid was totally sufficient for me.
Please note that this part is NOT symmetrical. There are little teeth that bite into the ratchet on the suction cup holder on one side. If you want the 10 degree steps that are foreseen on the holder, mount this part with the teeth towards the steps. If you want a smooth adjustment, mount it the other way around.
Your satisfaction is my reward. Please give me a like if you like this design. A make with a photo of your application totally makes my day.
Happy printing!
