Universal drilling jig (for perpendicular drilling)

This drilling jig  can be used to drill holes perpendicular to a surface, a rod or a pipe.

It is quite easy to adapt to tools from other manufacturers, by modifying the included STEP- or F3D-design files “adapter for your own tool”. 
The hard part is measuring your tool's dimensions precisely. Some are cylindrical, others are conical and other factors may also have to be accounted for.

I had originally made the adapter for my Bosch cordless drill (Bosch GSR 12V-15 FC), but decided to make it more universal by adding an adapter, that can easily be modified to fit other cordless drills to the fixture.

Other makers have made adapters for various drill models. I have remixed these to fit this drilling jig.

I designed the jig for 8mm linear rods and bushings commonly used in 3D printers.

Necessary screws and nuts are listed in the file “other parts.png”

Printing: 

• You can increase the number of vertical shells if you want. I have printed it with 3 vertical shells with good results. 
   
• I recommend that you print the depth stop parts with 5 vertical shells in order to retain the clamping force.
   
• All stl-files have the parts placed in proper direction for printing with no additional supports. 

Post printing: 

• Depending on the print quality, you may have to sand the adaptor a bit to make it fit your drill and the fixture. 
   
• The depth stop - lock housing and adapter - Bosch… have built-in supports that must be removed before assembling.

Changes:

    2023-11-22

• Guide notch removed from fixture and lock lever moved. This makes it easier to mount/unmount the tool adapter ring.

    2024-02-26

• On request I have added mounting holes in the base. You can then attach an extra plate of your own design.
