Description

This is the sixth revision of my magnetic separation stand, re-designed to efficiently use cheap 8mm by 2mm rare earth magnets (center wall is angled to meet the angle of a 1.5 mL tube, in order to bring the magnets closer to the tube. The benefit is that you can use a cheaper magnet, if you are willing to only use 1. 5mL microfuge tubes). You could very easily use double the amount of 8mm by 1mm magnets (http://dx.com/p/super-strong-rare-earth-re-magnets-8mm-20-pack-4248 and through other places. I got my 8mmX2mm magnets at Harbor Freight, although these aren't the ones they sell online). This stand separates beads at the same rate as my Promega stand (http://tinyurl.com/bqcnefq), but instead of $45 this stand cost me $3 to make (including the magnets). You can print off multiples of this unit or you can redesign it to accommodate more than two microfuge tubes, or 2 mL tubes. Cheers!

Print this off (upside down, with no supports on my Replicator 2). I probably used 3 shells and 35% infill. Insert magnets (they will actually attract each other and hold each other inside the plastic stand). Then, purify proteins!
