This magnetic wand is designed as Montessori-style toy for children to play and enjoy sensory experiences. It's a great companion for my other magnet model: Magnet bodies, half sphere, various.
Requires: Two 25x5 circular magnets (cavity is 19.5x9.6mm).
Design features
- Large wand shape is easy to hold, and includes a hole at the end opposite the magnet for hanging on a toy workbench or other easy storage.
- The magnet head is 33mm in diameter, which matches exactly my Magnet bodies, half sphere, various.
- Symmetrical design for access to either magnetic pole.
- The magnet is fully embedded and can't be removed (safer than a glued-on magnet).
- When printing in flex filament it will hurt less when thrown.
Printing instructions
- I recommend flex with 10% infill. (The picture shows orange flex with the gyroid infill, a really nice effect.)
- Slice the .stl file to include a pause after the magnet cavity (after the layer at 11.2 mm).
- Insert the magnets during the pause (glue isn't necessary for flex material, but if you're using something hard it will prevent rattles).
- Note: The .gcode file I've included has a custom pause algorithm. Upon resume it will extrude a bit and begin a 4 second move to give you time to wipe excess material.
Safety notes
- Magnets can be dangerous.
- Please supervise your children at all times.
Notes
- I designed this model in OpenSCAD and it's fully parameterized. If you'd like a simple modification (i.e., magnet size, wand length, handle curve radius… ), send me a message and I'll see what I can do.
