Description
This model is a remix of SHaDoW6's original mount, I just redesigned it to fit IP65 COB LED light strips. The channel in the mount is wide enough to fit 8mm wide x 2mm tall COB LED strips securely. Just cut the LED strips to length, solder the connectors to the end nearest the original Creality connector. Prepare both surfaces by wiping down with isopropyl alcohol and allowing them to dry. Attach the mount to the inside lip just above the door by applying 3M VHB double-stick tape to the back of the flat part of the mount and then pressing the bracket hard against the inside front edge of the printer. Connect your new strip to the old Creality connector and you now have a much brighter lighting solution.
If you wish to go even brighter I would recommend using this mount https://www.printables.com/model/710257 by Firefly, as its a bolt through design and will be easily removable. You just make your own Y-splitter at the original Creality connector in the front right top corner and connect directly to your right side strip, and use the other side of the Y-splitter to connect to your front strip and solder on another connector at the end of your front strip to connect to strip on the left of the printer. I like this design because it's easily removable and uses pre-existing holes to bolt the brackets on.
I prefer to use IP65 rated LED strips because they are coated in silicone and your drag chains will not get hung up on them. You CAN print three of my mount design and use them on all 3 sides but they will be stuck on basically forever. VHB tape is ungodly strong. In addition the drag chain is known to catch on this mount on the back left side if you put a strip on the left. Firefly's design, along with IP65 COB LEDs remove that problem.
Sorry for the long write up. Listed below are the materials you will need for this to work.
MATERIALS
½" wide 3M VHB Tape https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007Y7H56E?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
JST1.25 2 pin connectors (Male and Female) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093WVXHSD?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
COB LED strip https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08VW599D5?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 these specific strips are guaranteed to work, they are what I used in the pictures and for the design, if you change this it is not guaranteed to work. Any LED you choose MUST be 24v DC or you risk damaging your printer.
In addition to this stuff you will need a soldering iron and solder, unless you choose to use the connectors SHaDoW6 used in their original design. If you choose to use soldering like I did I would recommend also getting some clear RTV Silicone and smearing a dab over all of your solder connections to avoid having anything short out the circuit and potentially destroy your mainboard, I also used heat shrink on all wires just for added protection.
As a precaution, do not attempt any of this before turning off your printer and disconnecting it from power completely.
I have also included the Fusion360 design file for anyone who wishes to adjust the design to fit their own selected LEDs. Happy Making!!!
