Description

As you can see in the pictures, this is a two part design. You will need to print the mounting clip and the actual cupholder.

The clip is mounted in the passenger footwell by removing the forward screw on the center console near where the passengers knee would be if they were in the car. You simply remove that one screw and then put the screw through the hole in the clip and put the screw and clip assembly back into the original mounting hole in the center console. After the clip is attached you can easily attach the cupholder to it and if you have a passenger, you can easily slide the cupholder out and toss it in the back or stash it in the glove compartment. If you don't like the design everything can be put back to the way it was, no drilling holes or fundamentally altering the original design of the car.

This allows you to bring your drink with you on solo drives while keeping the cup out of the way of the gear shifter, a struggle that I think every Miata driver has faced. The cup will fit tightly in the holder so that it doesn't rattle while driving, the vacuum relief holes are there to allow you to lift the drink out easily without also lifting the cupholder out of the clip.

MATERIAL

Print this out of any material you prefer. The pictures show it in PETG but thats just what I had laying around while I was iterating the design. PLA will work but probably won't last long in hot climates. I would generally recommend ABS or ASA, although ABS may not do well with long term exposure to UV rays. I am currently reprinting it in PA6-CF.

PRINT SETTINGS

Recommended:

0.4 Nozzle

0.2 Layer Height

4 Walls

5 Top/Bottom

50% Infill

Supports are required but are minimal and only need to touch the buildplate, normal style works but if you prefer tree supports those will work as well.

But you do you, I'm not your boss.

Lastly, get out there and rip some shifts through the twisties fellow Miatadorks.
