Description

In my efforts to make a versatile, modular desk, one of the biggest issues was finding ways to mount the objects that usually take up permanent desk space.

Computer speakers are usually quite large, and demand a permanent home on a desktop. There are wall-mounting solutions too, but they really don't do the speakers justice. I wanted a way to position them in space independently while not interfering with any of the other functions my desk allows.

Fortunately, monitor arms have solved an adjacent problem. They pick up an obtrusive object off the desk in order to let it hover above the desk surface. And to make this solution even better, they almost all use a universal standard! The VESA mount pattern is a wonderfully simple modular standard consisting of four equally-spaced threaded holes on the back of most monitors.

Your speakers can float exactly where you need them and not take up valuable desk space. Why not use VESA mounts for a few things while we're at it?

Since the VESA mount pattern is widely used for most monitors, even monitor stands can be used to raise and position your speakers off the desk surface!

With more work and research, I hope to bring this VESA adapter to more brands of speaker. I get the impression there is a loose standard for speakers to have a threaded hole somewhere for mounting. It varies a bit too much to pin down, but I hope to bring this design to those speakers with an existing system in place.
