Description
A top mount adapter to move the side spool holder on Ender-5/SV05 style printers to an easier to access location. This helps support direct drive Cartesian cube printers without excessive straight lengths or long reverse bowden setups.
This design was originally brought about as the SV05 has a very weak extruder which often fought the stock reverse bowen setup. Moving the spool in this way reduced the drag in the filament path and gave more leeway to the extruder for better quality prints.
The majority of this design is 3D Printed with a minor need for the following for hardware. Even the bearing is a printed herringbone gear bearing with a light press-fit into the swivel plate.
The goal of this design it to achieve a light press fit of the bearing into the swivel plate. If your hole is tool small, you will need to re-print the swivel plate with hole compensation. Glue is not recommended for the outer race as the strength of your print will be limited to the glue adhesion.
The hex dowel presses into the base plate and can be glued if desired. From there, the stock Creality/Sovol spool holder can be mounted to the swivel plate along with the filament guide brackets.
The filament guide brackets are designed to mount the the incise of the stock spool holder and be secured through the vertical slots in the metal bracket. The guide bracket should be left slightly loose incase the filament path changes while your remaining filament diameter gets smaller.
It's a niche design, but certainly useful for the right person. Be sure to take photos and let us know have yours came out!
