Description
The Castle Turret Bedpost was made for our grandchildren's room. The decor fits for either a boy or a girl. The pair were printed in a glow in the dark filament with a white cap & insert.
The turret is taken from Castle_Pen by 3Dplaymaker. www.thingiverse.com/thing:1611427
I added a cap and insert to the turret in order to have it fit in the hollow tube for this metal bed frame. You can modify the features of the cap and insert, however the turret remains the same size. About 42 mm diameter by 51.5 mm high.
These are the settings for the two included STL files:
// inner diameter radius
base_radius = 16.0;
// base depth
base_depth = 12.0;
// Top cap height
top_cap_ht = 8.0;
// Top cap radius
top_cap_r = 24;
Rafts: Yes
Supports: Yes
Resolution: 0.3 mm
Infill: 12%
MeshMixer, SketchUp, OpenSCAD, Simplify3D
The turret model is quite large (7 Meg) so I needed to reduce the triangle count with MeshMixer.
The turret design from 3Dplaymaker is cup shaped. I filled it SketchUp to make it stronger and then the file was converted to SCAD using roha's STL to SCAD utility www.thingiverse.com/thing:1383325 The x3g file was prepared with SImplify3D with support for a MakerBot printer.
To save time and trouble, print out only the cap and insert. You will need to comment out the call to the turret in the OpenSCAD code. Modify the cap and insert sizes - check the illustration for variable definitions. If you want to print in two colours, pause the printer at (Top cap height + Base depth).
