Next you want to insert the hook through the gate side and out the back of the spine. Fold your rubber band in half creating 2 loops then run the paperclip hook through the loops.

With your left hand keep tension on the rubber band. Use your right hand to fix the other side of the rubber band to the hooked plug.

Keep tension on the rubber band while inserting the plug. Be sure the rubber band stays looped around the hook until the plug is inserted. If your plug goes a little sideways you should be able to adjust it before pushing it all the way flush.Â

After you have the plug flush with the spine, use your pliers to pull the rubber band out. Pull it out just enough so you will be able to insert the gate of the carabiner between the rubber band loops. Once you have the rubber band in the groove, around the gate, you can place it in position.
The rest is just glueing the insert into the bottom.
Â
When you are glueing the insert into the bottom of the carabiner, be sure to wedge the gate open. If you leave the gate closed, the super glue from the insert may bond them together. Trust me I learned this by doing it….
