This is a collection of modular, magnetically-sealed storage boxes based on the building block design popularized by LEGO. It is a fairly easy print with no supports are required. Additionally, all printable parts fit within 180mm x 90mm, meaning it can be printed on an A1 mini or any similar small printer.
The following bricks are included:
The dimensions of the bricks are slightly offset from what would be expected to account for clearance between bricks and to stick with the ratios of actual LEGO bricks.
If you do not have magnets, there are alternate files available. Note that the magnet version is highly recommended for better fit and longevity of the joint.
You will need small 5x3 magnets (diameter of 5mm and thickness of 3mm). The tolerances are fairly tight for inserting the magnets (0.1mm radius clearance) - this is intended to prevent them from falling out and you will need to press fit them. If you have trouble getting them in, you can use a pair of pliers. One trick I've also found is to partially insert the magnet, then flip the brick over and press it against a table so it gets pushed in fully. I also have a set of files with greater tolerances (0.2mm radius clearance), though you might need to glue the magnets in to ensure they stay in place.
If you aren't sure which tolerance version is right for you, I included a tolerance test you can print out first, with holes on the top that correspond to the base fit and holes on the bottom that correspond to the lid fit.
IMPORTANT: When inserting the magnets:
This ensures the lid attaches no matter how it's rotated because if the magnets are not aligned properly, the lid won't seal correctly. It might seem obvious, but it's easy to overlook with such small magnets.
These storage containers can be easily stacked just like real building bricks. Note that I chose to not have them snap together - I did not want it to be hard to get to any particular container, and I didn't want the lids to pop off when trying to separate bricks.
