Description

This design is for using a touch type sensor in place of the inductive sensor that ships with the Sovol SV06 extruder and adds a location for attaching my signature skull & wrenches ornament.

My measured X and Y offsets, probe to nozzle tip offsets are:  X=35mm Y=-27mm

The inductive probe uses only 3 wires, whereas the BLTouch and clones use 5.  Since all 5 pins on the extruders break-out board are wired into the 24 wire ribbon cable, and all 5 pins are terminated at the main boads probe interface, I decided to splice two of the left over short cables from old 3DTouch kits together and connect the sensor at the extruder to avoid running another long cable all the way to the main board.  If you do as I did, be advised that this short cable must be configured as a roll-over cable.  You'll have to unpin either end, flip the connector over, then repin that end.  The end result will be two ends that mirror, rather than duplicate each other.  I did find a cable on Amazon that will perform the same job, but it's sold as a pair of two cables, and is selling for $12.00, which is more than I've paid for any of my BLTouch clone kits.  If you'd rather spend the money and avoid the manual labor of making your own cable from scraps, that pair of cables is at:  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BKPFY24M/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A3JQ90N3GJ1SOZ&th=1

I've been using Pheelix14's "BLTouch Cover Protector (Remix)V2" on all my machines using the knock-off “3DTouch” sensors.  I've found that design to be perfect for protecting probe tips, and it makes for a much easier “nutless” installation of the 3D Touch sensor.  I'm currently using a 3mm shim, two 3mm X 16mm socket head screws, with both a flat and split washer on either screw.  I've included a selection of shims ranging from 0.5mm to 3mm in 0.5mm increments, as well as the cover of Pheelix14's model that best fits the 3DTouch sensors I'm using, but I don't know if that cover will fit an actual BLTouch, and it may not fit knock-off sensors of different manufacture.  Pheelix14's complete cover set is located at:  https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4400925

I print the “SV06_BLTouch_Mount_V3.stl” part as oriented in the STL with normal supports “Touching Buildplate” with 100% infill for rigidity and strength.  I print the shims as oriented in the STL without supports, and with 100% infill, and even though Phelix14's cover will probably print as oriented in the STL without supports, I flip it 180 degrees and use supports “Touching Buildplate”, and 100% infill with that as well.  The orientation of the “Sovol_E_Touchmount.stl” file is upside down from how it will be installed to both increase buildsurface connectivity, and to reduce the amount of support material required.

For printing the ornaments, I print either the skull or dragon head as oriented in the STL's with supports to build plate only.  I print the wrenches as oriented in the STL without supports, but I add a brim for bed adhesion.  I print the wrenches in whatever color is handy on the machine I'm printing them on and I leave the brim attached to the model for easy painting with a shaker can.  The tips of the wrenches that fit into the skull will most likely require some light sanding so they'll fit into the cut-outs of the skull.

You may have noticed from the photo's that this extruder is not installed on a Sovol machine.  I recently upgraded my Anet A8 Plus with a Sovol extruder, and was so pleased with how it performs, I wanted to do a similar upgrade to my most hated machine, the Tronxy XY-2 Pro.  While I was poking around on Amazon, I found a kit manufactured by Comgrow, that comes with the complete extruder, carrier plate with pom rollers, the 24 pin ribbon cable, and an unbranded “Sovol” 32 bit silent main board, all for the price of $50.  The kit isn't what I would call perfect, as it will cost you a bit of Y axis build space, about 10mm since the nozzle is so far forward, but for that price, it's an AMAZING value IMO.  I don't expect that kit to be around for long, but if you're interested, it's at:  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CRKS7XK9?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
