Aluminum ladder step protection cover

After several years of exposure to sunlight or general light, the end or protective caps made of plastic on aluminum ladders can become brittle and break. This leaves unprotected, often sharp edges that are not only unsightly but also pose a potential safety hazard.

To address this issue, I designed a model for my ladder that might also work for yours. The installation can be a bit tricky: First, slide on the thinner inner side, then guide the other side over the outside of the ladder strut from the top and gradually slide it onto the step – this is where the slight flexibility of PETG proves to be good. Of course, you can also print it in TPU, but I aimed to stay as close to the original as possible by using plastic.

There are two models available, one for the left side and one for the right side of the step.
New model v1.1 is 0.5 mm larger. This is useful if the other one is not so easy to install or, in rare cases, breaks when you put it on. The whole thing is intentionally very tight so that it sits firmly without rattling. 
The model was designed for an aluminum ladder with a step depth of 8 cm.

Nach einigen Jahren in der Sonne oder unter Lichteinwirkung werden die End- bzw. Schutzkappen aus Kunststoff an Aluleitern porös und brechen. Zurück bleiben ungeschützte, oft scharfkantige Enden, die nicht nur unschön sind, sondern auch eine potenzielle Verletzungsgefahr bergen.

Deshalb habe ich ein Modell für meine Leiter entworfen, das möglicherweise auch bei euch passt. Die Montage kann etwas knifflig sein: Zuerst die dünne innere Seite aufschieben, dann die andere Seite außen um die Leiterstrebe von oben führen und Stück für Stück auf die Stufe schieben – hier erweist sich die leichte Flexibilität von PETG als gut. Natürlich könnt ihr es auch aus TPU drucken, aber ich wollte mit Kunststoff möglichst nah am Original bleiben.

Es gibt zwei Modelle, für die linke und rechte Seite der Stufe.
Neues Modell v1.1 ist 0,5 mm größer. Das ist praktisch, wenn sich das andere nicht so leicht montieren lässt oder in seltenen Fällen beim Aufstecken kaputt geht. Das Ganze ist absichtlich sehr stramm, damit es fest sitzt ohne zu klappern.
Das Modell wurde für eine Aluleiter mit einer Stufentiefe von 8 cm entwickelt.
