Description

Note: This file set is an extension to the HomeCube enclosure project. To make use of this file set, you have to download the basic file set and building instructions PDF as well.

These are the filament spool holders I originally designed for the HomeCube enclosure but which are generally universal and can be used with most 3D printers, with or without an enclosure.

There are virtually hundreds of printable spool holder designs available. Each one has its pros and cons, none of them is perfect. And this one is no exception...
So, why did I design another spool holder at all? Well, there is a combination of features I wanted to have but could not find in any model available. In particular, these are:

  • Minimal space consumption (even in a group of multiple spool holders, mounted at different angles).
  • Mounting point independent from the printer frame to avoid transfer of tremors to the printer (and the print).
  • Minimal (practically no) vibration and inertia/breakaway torque
  • Smooth and unhearable operation.
  • Use of different spool sizes up to 100 mm width without any need of adjustment.
  • Possibility of standing as well as hanging mount.

Well, the result of my efforts is what you can download from this page. Please note that, even if you are not going to build a HomeCube, you will still need the building instructions PDF linked above to learn how to assemble the spool holders.
