Ahh telephones. Before the advent of cordless and cellular phones, people used telephones with handsets, and on a very common AT&T/Bell Telephone handset was a receiver that had a very distinctive (and cool) pattern. One dot in the center, six around that, then just keep adding six until you have four layers. (1 / 6 / 12 / 18) Now, this is the 21st century, so I decided to kick the pattern up a notch and, yup, that's right: add a fifth layer, making the pattern 1, 6, 12, 18 and 24. I was so busy, I had someone else count the pips for me, but the math works out, and boy is it pretty!

I realized after I posted this that someone might be "advanced" enough (extra points if you get the reference) to think that this coffee looks enough like a telephone microphone that they put a full mug of scalding hot coffee up to their ear. It might sound like this: "Hellooooooo-ooowwwww" And then that would immediately slide into an expletive, most likely starting with an "F." (Try saying that at home. It's surprisingly rewarding.) Then third degree burns. But seriously: no burning hot coffee on your face or ears or anywhere else on your body unless you're into that. Thanks!

Speaking of telephones, GlaDOS in the video game Portal once said this and it made me laugh:

I feel awful about that surprise. Tell you what, let's give your parents a call right now. [phone ringing] The birth parents you are trying to reach do not love you. Please hang up. [Dial tone]

But seriously, this stencil looks almost like an old-timey telephone microphone, so your coffee will be extra nostalgic if you're an old like me!

This is the last of the old-series of stencils. I'm posting this on the day that I've reworked the stencil with better handles, and a few new features. Don't worry - there will eventually be a newer version of this stencil released, but it won't have a different pattern, just happier handles!

I literally just had a root canal an hour ago, so I'm going to keep this short.

Oh, one last thing: If you have a larger/smaller mug, cup, glass or other assorted vessel that this stencil just won't work with, please let me know the dimensions of the item, and I'll make a new set of stencils just for you! Well, and everyone else, too. It helps if you print one of these stencils off, and then create an I Made One, so you can send me pictures of why it isn't working, what your vessel looks like (isn't that a rather personal question?) and its dimensions. The most important dimensions are the outside and inside diameter. The rest is just me being curious. I'll make sure the lip fits around the outside diameter, and that there's enough of a margin between the stencil cut-outs and the inside diameter. Please share measurements in metric - millimeters is best. Thanks!
