Mini Trash Can for Pencils

Not so long ago, I received a new 3D printer, the Bambulab X1C. I couldn't wait to try out all its printing modes. For testing, I needed various models that could be printed quickly, so I wouldn't have to spend too much time waiting.

One of these models was a stylized trash can, which is perfect as a holder for pencils and pens. It turned out to be not only a fun accessory for the desk but also a good test for the printer. The lid has rings that needed to be printed without supports. They turned out well, and the printer handled them perfectly. However, these weren't the most challenging tests I've conducted. This is a simple model that any printer can handle. I wanted to see how the Bambulab X1C would perform with overhangs, bridges, and other printing nuances that often caused difficulties with my other printers.

Materials and Settings

For printing, I used PLA, a matte dark gray plastic fromeSUN. The result was impressive, but if you want a more authentic look, I recommend using metallic-effect plastic—there are plenty of such options. Alternatively, you could paint it with anodized aluminum-effect paint. I also tried printing this model with PETG, and the details came out great. Although the model is quite simple and almost any printer can handle it, there were moments that allowed me to assess the performance of the Bambulab X1C.

Printing Recommendations

If you liked this mini trash can, you can download the STL files and use your own slicer settings. But if you're interested in my settings, I recommend downloading the file in 3MF format . For infill, I used a spiral pattern called "Archimedean Chords," which adds an interesting texture.

If you want to achieve high print quality, especially for the lid, I recommend using a layer height of 0.12 mm. The same approach can be applied to the can itself if you have the time and desire to get the best possible result. However, you might not need the lid if you're planning to use the can as a pencil holder. I printed it just for experimentation—you might find it useful as a trash can-shaped case.

If you liked this model and found it useful, I'd appreciate a like.
